Trips

We have bi-monthly weekend trips to the Highlands. Most trips are 3 days long – leaving on the Friday afternoon and coming back to St Andrews Sunday evening. This year we will (hopefully) go to the Cairngorms, Torridon, Skye, Glencoe and more. Once a year we have a trip abroad – to France, Spain, Greece or another wonderful place!

How do I sign up?

Next semester we will probably do trip sign ups on Tuesdays – weekend trips cost around £30 for three days, including all transport and accommodation (super great deal!) Especially if you are willing to drive – then trips only cost around £20 for the whole weekend. Details and how to sign up will be announced in the weekly email!. Trip sign ups will be the week before the trip, and please ensure that you can go – we cannot give refunds if you drop out of a trip. You can pay cash or bank transfer – we can send you the club’s details.

What should I bring?

This is a very comprehensive kit list and you won’t need all of it every time, but please use your brain!

Layers – leggings, thermals, whatever. Just make sure you’ve got spare layers as your bound to get wet and cold –
Full body waterproofs – top and bottom, plastic bags don’t count.
Sleeping bag – you’ll need this to sleep in. Club has a descent supply if you don’t have one. Plus a liner if you’ve got one. (club does not have liners)
Sturdy footwear – waterproof, well insulated boots with good ankle support are essential if you plan on going up high. Bring winter boots if your own them. B2 boots are a must if you would like to go out with NICK CARTER
Gloves – 2-3 pairs, one beefy pair. – Water bottle – for water – Headtorch – You will 100% need one! Also In case of an early rise or an epic. Club has a few. Rechargeable batteries a good shout.
Compass – essential for nav, must have if going out in the hills. Club has a few.
Maps – free maps can be printed from http://digimap.edina.ac.uk/ – although OS and Harveys are betterer.
Backpack – 30-35L should be fine.
Helmet – must have if you intend on climbing
 Towel – to dry body
Spare clothes – enough to last 3-4 days.
 Toiletries – whatever you need
Food: 3 days worth. Just bring Huel. (EDIT: please bring more than Huel)
Climbing gear – bring what you have and we’ll do our best to supply what you don’t have.

Can you DRIVE for us?

We always need drivers for weekend and day trips! This requires a driver’s license (doesn’t necessarily have to be UK ; U.S. and European licenses are accepted too), a test at the AU to confirm your capabilities, and bangin’ tunes. If you are interested in driving, please email us ([email protected]) and we will set up a test for you with the AU!
